Day 3 of Engage!11 – Cayman Islands definitely did not disappoint!
The morning began with David Beahm, confetti, a light up baton and a lesson on not to look back unless we wanted to go that way. His presentation was full of gratitude and he reminded us that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. He encouraged us to write down our goals and wants, not just dream about them. “A goal without a plan is just a wish, and a wish is just a fairy tale.”
Event planner, therapist, rent a friend, counselor, producer, director, schlepper and highly sought after Mindy Weiss was up next. She reminded us how we are all responsible for making people’s memories, how similar we all were when it came to our clients and she even taught us some of her office lingo. WAB (We Are Blessed), ILWG (In Love With the Groom) and 5MTG (5 Minutes To Go) were favorites among many.
The next hour was full of great advice from an esteemed Media Panel. Michelle Rago was the facilitator and had great tips on thinking ahead and knowing your story. The panel consisted of Rebecca Crumley of The Knot, Shira Savada of Martha Stewart Weddings, Harmony Walton of The Bridal Bar and the new Jete Fete, Media Consultant Jill Meister and Angela Desveaux of WedLuxe. The ladies educated attendees of editorial content, editorial calendars and submission processes.
After a quick break the grand dame of cake design – Sylvia Weinstock took the front of the room. She spoke of the importance of taking care of your employees, never working for free and loving what you do. It was clear in the images she brought to show us the love she has for her work; and it is simply stunning, absolutely one-of-a-kind.
Designer and Owner of Ceci New York, Ceci Johnson was next to the stage. She first introduced us to images of her 2 month old little boy (she looks incredible for having a newborn) and began her presentation on the importance of how you build a luxury brand. Her points included; You are your brand, Finding your signature style, Having a strong visual statement, Carrying through and Sweat + Sacrifice = Success.
The Party Goddess – Marley Majcher took the stage next with a lesson on running your business smart. She touched on “forget me not’s,” how to be mindful of your time and how to better keep track of your expenses.
Ed Libby of Ed Libby & Company concluded the Engage!11 sessions with the importance of using all five senses to design an event. Ed Libby is an incredible artist and sketches the entire event as part of his design process.
We had a few hours to relax and get ready for the closing gala and Jo-Anne Brown of Celebrations, and her team, only had a few hours to transform the room we were in. When the doors opened for the evening it was absolutely incredible. Shades of plum, lime and jute that set the theme all week were throughout the room. Raj Tents installed a beautiful tent in the ballroom that housed the desserts. Once Randy Fenoli and Sylvia Weinstock opened the dance floor the DJ’s did not stop spinning records. It was an incredible evening of networking, great food, dancing and fun. All too soon the final song played and Engage!11 was over.
It was a week I will never forget. I met so many incredible industry professionals I wouldn’t have other wise – all thanks to Kathryn Arce, Rebecca Grinnals and their team at Engaging Concepts. These ladies had a true vision and are passionate about attendees “engaging” through a wonderful luxury wedding business summit. I can not say thank you enough, but thank you ladies. It is now my personal goal to attend one Engage! conference per year (if not both of them)!
